Jorge Tovar aka Mero

I was born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens — right in the heart of New York City, where every block feels like a canvas and every corner has a story. From the jump, I’ve always been drawn to the artistic side of things. I still remember being in kindergarten, choosing paint over anything else during free time. That was the first sign — even if I didn’t realize it yet.

As I got older, drawing and painting became my go-to outlets. But it was graffiti that really lit the fire. Something about it just clicked — the colors, the forms, the messages — and especially the way each artist branded their work. That’s when I started to understand that art wasn’t just about expression… it was also about impact. Graffiti taught me that your name, your style, your presence — it all mattered.

When I got to college, I joined the Baruch City Advertising Society, and that’s where things started to align. I fell in love with designing flyers, promos, anything that got people’s attention. Two of my mentors were graphic designers, and I was blown away watching them bring ideas to life digitally. I knew I had to learn that language. I needed to translate everything in my head — the graffiti, the sketches, the vision — into something I could build and share on screen.

That’s how Meroism Designs was born.

Fast forward to now, and I’m proud to say I’m running my own small business, bringing stories to life through design — whether it’s merch, branding, event visuals, or passion projects that rep the culture I come from. Every piece I create still has a little bit of Queens in it. And that kindergartener who just wanted to paint? He’s still in here too.
